Glenn County Resource Conservation District (RCD) was honored as an “Outstanding District of the Year” at the well attended Natural Resources Conservation Service Partnership Awards Luncheon during California Association of Resource Conservation Districts (CARCD) 66th Annual Conference held in Stockton on November 9.
RCD directors Mike Yalow and Bruce Roundy, Executive Officer Kandi Manhart, and Watershed Coordinator Liz Brackmann were on hand to accept the prestigious award presented to the RCD by NRCS State Conservationist Ed Burton in recognition of the district’s leadership in innovation, outreach to stakeholders, furthering science in conservation, and reaching historically underserved communities. Glenn County RCD was among only four award winning conservation districts from around the state, with one honoree in each of NRCS’s four administrative areas in California.
“This award was quite a surprise, and we are pleased to have received this honor,” said Manhart. “However, the true honor is being able to work side-by-side with NRCS staff to carry out our mission, and daily operations, to help the landowners, land managers and communities we represent in Glenn County.”
Many of the district’s projects and programs were highlighted during the awards presentation, including pollinator conservation work on farms, Glenn County Community Wildfire Protection Plan, Glenn County Certified Farmers Market, Arundo removal work in the Lower Stony Creek Watershed, RCD Connects with Kids educational program, and financial planning workshops for beginning farmers and ranchers.
“It is exciting to receive this recognition from the NRCS,” said Glenn County RCD President Mike Landini. “The RCD and NRCS partnership is critical for implementing on-the-ground conservation practices. I would like to personally thank the NRCS and RCD staffs for their commitment to their county. We look forward to continuing our good work within Glenn County and fostering new projects that will, together, improve our resources.”
